Terrarium Care

Autumn Rose Terrariums

The magic of terrariums comes from the plants themselves; not only do they create their own oxygen they create their own watering cycle. Both the plants and soil release a water vapor which is released and collects on the side of the vessel which we often refer to as the mist, This then trickles down the sides of the vessel and is absorbed back into the soil and roots. Oxygen is created by the plants which reuses the carbon dioxide in the vessel to produce oxygen via photosynthesis, and it uses the surplus of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide via respiration.

It is essential that your terrarium is placed in an area with a good source of filtered light, not direct light or heat, they donot like to be on a window sill or a dark damp room.

As the seasons change, so will the life inside your terrarium. Warmer weather brings more activity which can cause your terrarium to frequently mist over, and in turn as the cooler weather comes activity slows down.

Additional care.  You may notice your terrarium misting over more frequently when you first take it home, This is the ecosystem adapting to the new environment outside the vessel.  If you feel during the warmer months the mist is becoming too frequent try moving it to a different position, you can at this stage remove the lid and allow the terrarium to air and release some of the moisture.. If you feel your terrarium is struggling, check if the soil and the moss are feeling dry, if so we suggest giving several sprays of filtered water to help the ecosystem kick start.
